BILLY MACKENZIE - Wild is the wind (2001)

Billy and the Associates were in my favourite list in the '80. Sometime a flash back in the past is welcome. Wild is the wind is the right song and atmosphere for a foggy winter day as today is.

This Ep is from 2001 (after  Billy suicide in 1997) and the main song "Wild is the wind" is a cover of an old piece  (1957).

Here an mp3 version

NIGHTMARES ON WAX - Shout Out! To Freedom (Live at Pikes Ibiza) - 2022

If you like TRIP-HOP, Nightmares On Wax is a well known name. Since many years a reference point for this music area.

In 2021 the release of "Shout Out! To Freedom..." and now in 2022 the "Live version"  recorded at the famous Pikes of Ibiza.

Generally I am not a fun of live records but listening to this one I was completely captured by the  atmosphere and sound. Trip-Hop at a very high level. I appreciate this magic live more than the last year studio record.

My curiosity was completely satisfied When searching on youtube I saw this full version performance of the event. My suggestion is to watch this video to be totally immersed in the atmosphere.

CABARET VOLTAIRE - The Crackdown (1983)

This weekend I spent some time listening to old vinyls. I haven' t had this record on my turntable for many years. It was a pleasure to hear  to this again. The Crackdown is  one of the easy LP from  Cabaret Voltaire with rhythm and a mix of electronic and techno sonorities completely new at that time ( 1983 !!!).

This is not my vinyl rip but a copy from the CD version from somewhere on the web.

NU GENEA - Bar Mediterraneo (2022)

They Changed  their name from "Nu Guinea" ( unforgettable Nuova Napoli ) to "Nu Genea" but the sound is still there. An irresistible mix of sound, cultures and languages.

Waiting for the vinyl (hard to find) here from Deezer,

This is the right soundtrack for this  very hot and sunny summer.

Enjoy this jewel of ethic-funky-disco-electronic from Naples:

FONTAINES D.C. - Magnolia (Milan) 8_06_22

Second concert I joined in 2022 and quality is still very high.

After the Bodega show really I was not really prepared to see so many people for Fontains D.C.

Sure this is an european band and probably well  known in Italy (this is not their first tour) but honestly I never saw so many people at "Magnolia". Unfornately a little storm with rain comes before the show ( start 1/2 hour late) but that's not so important. At the end it was an excellent performance  with High volume and adrenaline music.

Main comment  is  that I was expexted to see a lot of young people there (my daughter likes them but unfortunately for an examination to university cannot attent  with me) but the average age of people was really higher than expected.

BODEGA - April 22, 2022 Magnolia (Segrate MI)

Yesterday evening I was really excited driving at "Magnolia club" for two reasons. 1) after about 2 years (Covid) I am going to a live concert   and 2) Bodega are at the moment one of my favourite band.

Double  the surprise too, once there:
1) How few people present (probably no more than 50-60 !!)
2) How  rough and wild Bodega are on the stage
One hour and a half of "high intensity" show with Nikki (some reminding of B-52s) the "wild" Tai Lee at drums  and an encore  with a wonderful version of "Truth is not a punishment".
It is really a pleasure the return to the good habits!!

Meshell Ndegeocello - Peace Beyond Passion ( 1996)

This is a discovery of the  last day. Honestly I had never heard Meshell Ndegeocello before. intrigued, I searched for his works on the web and the result is that this “Peace beyond Passion” (my favourite) is constantly in my CD player .

Her work are different each other; from hi-pop to lounge and jazz.

I can define” Peace beyond passion “ as a mix of acid-jazz and Trip-hop but you can easily catalog as you want by listening to it.

THE DREAM SYNDICATE - Out of the grey (1986)

Steve Wynn is the Dream Syndicate Leader, still  in activity (both with the dream syndicate and with a solo career). Out of the grey is considered the third work of the group that signed the "Paisley Underground" scene of Los Angeles in the middle of the '80.

Some differences from "The Days of Wine and Roses" and " Medicine Show" but the unmistakable sound is there.

PLACEBO - Ball of Eyes (1971)

There are more than one band named Placebo. Probably the most known is the UK band of '90 but this is not the case.

Placebo is also a jazz-funky-rock band of '70 based in Belgium.

Ball of Eyes is dated 1971 but you can enjoy this music also nowadays.

Good mix of different gemres balanced together.

FOOLKILLERS - Out of State Miracles (2007)

Some revival today. Back to '80 at L.A. area some bands started  with a psychedelic-garage-rock review  ( from '60). The new musical current is known as "paisley underground".  Main actors were: Dream Syndicate (evergreen), Rain Parade, True West (fantastic cover of Lucifer Sam),  Opal, The Long Riders, Three O'Clock.....

True West were one of my favourites but unfortunately with a short life.

Foolkillers are the right continuation.

Listening to this how not to recognize the TRUE WEST soul (voice and guitars).
