ANDRA DAY - Cheers to the Fall (2015)

This week watching at the TV (yes we are still confined at home) a movie based on Gianrico Carofiglio "night passengers" I was attracted by the soundtrack. A Beautiful voice , cool atmosphere. So I search on the web some information about this soundtrack and at the end this is the result:
Andra Day is the singer and "Rise up" probably the most famous song (some similarity with Adele ).
The first album is dated 2015 and here for who doesn't know, the possibility to test.

MORCHEEBA - Blood like lemonade (2010)

I'm playing "blood like lemonade"  very often in this period and really I like it.
I consider this work a very complete one. A lot of influences here but at the end a good balance of different styles. I try the listening of  other works of Morcheeba but this remain my favourite one.

EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL - Eden

It' s raining since 2 days. It is the Xmass storm, they say. So I' m spending quiet hours at home reading a book, playing with my daughter and ...of course  listening to good music.
Everything but the girl and Tracey Thorn voice can add a bit of heat to a wet and rainy day.
I hadn't  listened to this for years and  now I am positively impressed rediscovering it. Another gift from Tracey wonderful voice.

This is probably the last post in 2013 so Happy new Years to all of you.

MALIKA AYANE - 9/12/13 Auditorium di Milano

I was invited to a charity show with a concert of Malika Ayane, I know Malika and her voice so I corfirmed my presence. It was a nice evening; nothing exceptional, short (one hour of music) but at the end a good show.
The kind of music is "easy listening ". It is OK for a relax evening. For who doesn' t know Malika  (she  is italian with maroccan parents) I post the link with her first CD "Feeling Better"( 2009). It had  good success with some hits on TV advertising spots.

TRACEY THORN - Love & the opposites

TRACEY THORN  name will be forever linked to EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL experience. Anyway she also provided some other experiences and collaboration (Massive Attack, Style Council are the famous ones) and some work with her name. This is a 2010 work and appear as an intimate and sometime melancholy ones. The great voice of Tracey is anyway enough to appreciate the work as it is.

THE ASSOCIATES -Heart of glass

I find this  Associates single recently on other blogs and I want to post it. "Heart of glass " was the hit song from BLONDIE (1979). I have some problem to decide if the ASSOCIATES cover version is better than the original or not. For sure Billy Mckenzie's voice give to this song a special feeling. Two versions so different but both so beautiful. One of my favourite song from the unforgotten Billy.
Heart of glass was included in The Associates 1988 album "The Glamour Case ".

GRAIG AMSTRONG - The space between us (1998)

Graig Amstrong switch from orchestra composer to synth and electronic music and specially as motion pictures soundtrack composer. He also collaborates with names  like Madonna, Massive Attack, U2  etc. In 1998 he produced this  work with jewels like "this love" (Elizabeth Frazer is always  wonderful ) and  "weather storm".

SADE - Lovers Rock

I don't know why but I see some connections (probably emotional) from the previous post (ADELE) and this one.
Yes there are a lot of differencies; it was a different period  but at the end we are speaking about great voices, good music, and........this is enough (for me)!!!

ADELE - great voices

Of course I have not to discover ADELE as new emergent talent of music but I want to post two songs from her new album "21" because they follow me in a recent  vacation.
It was just listening to this songs every day for a week that I appreciate the intensity of Adele interpretation. I think we have to include between "great voices " of this period.

SWAMP CHILDREN - So Hot !

Swamp Children  "So Hot " is the title of this "cool" work. Original LP was released in 1982 and the CD (with bonus tracks) is from 2004. Part of the A Certain Ratio area, this group (and later Kalima) gave an elegant jazz  contribution  to the new wave music of the period

EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL - Acoustic

I consider Tracey Thorn voice one of the "great voices" in my music world. Everything But The Girl was a strange element in the '80-'90 years music. Somebody classify their music in the "cool-jazz-pop" that means all and nothing. This album (1995 ) contain some classic tracks with the wonderful voice instrument of Tracey.

WEEKEND - La Varietè

Recently I posted a track from Young Marble Giants for the series dedicated to "great voices". Here is another post of that series. Allison Statton is still the voice; after the experience with Young Marble Giants, Allison move to Weekend. Unfortunatly this group only released one LP "La Varietè", some singles and demos. YOUNG MARBLE GIANTS - Colossal Youth

For the series "great voices" here is another song. The track is taken from the cult LP "Colossal Youth " of 1980. The voice is Allison Statton. After the experience with Young Marble Giants, Allison  move to the group "Weekend" with a particular "bossa nova  acoustic style"

ELIZABETH FRAZER - This Love (Greig Amstrong)

I want to start here a series dedicated to "Great Voices" . I think that one of the best choice for this starting is Elizabeth Frazer. "This Love" is the song I post here. Probably there will be something also from Cocteau Twins discography in the next future. In the meantime you can free your mind with this jewel.
