SIMPLE MINDS - Alcatraz 25/2/14
Two years ago, same place, the 5x5 tour and now the new tour "Celebration". It is always a pleasure to see Jim and his band also if year after year the time pass also for him. Really this concert was not comparable with the unforgettable 5x5 tour (see the old post). This one was more conventional (probably because of the high expectation). The performance was divided in two parts (plus the final closure). The first 50 min were flat and Jim too soft. The real concert was in the second part. More power, more rythm and the most famous hits. At the end I was satisfied after 2 hr and a half. But again the 2012 5x5 tour was really another thing.

PETER HOOK AND THE LIGHT - Live at Magnolia 17/2/14

It was '82 when Peter was at Milan with New Order at "Rolling Stones" for their first concert. Now, 32 years later I saw Peter again. Good performance at Magnolia club last Monday. Few people there, also because the event was not so publicized (I just casually know about it few days before) and good "atmosphere". Peter appears as a mid age man. He has nothing to demonstrate any more but it seems he enjoy himself playing on the set. The band is really good and the sound is "still " there (the voice unfortunatly no). At the end with the appetizer of some Joy division songs and main dish of New Order first two LPs (Movement and Power Corruption and Lies) the concert was 2 hours and a half long. The etherogeneous audience (more fashionists and professionist than rockers) at the end was really satisfied and the final "Blue Monday" was the right closure of the night.Peter video 1 :Joy Division Song

HATFIELD AND THE NORTH - The Rotter's Club (1975)
This evening I played some old songs of the "progressive " era. So I just remember this group. Hatfield and the North was part of the "cultured" progressive music of the '70 also known as Canterbury school.
The Rotter's Club was the second LP of the group and it is a good memory of that period (1975).

TELEVISION - Marquee Moon
I am listening to this old record ( 1977) to be prepared for a June 2014 event. TELEVISION will be on tour with a date in Milan to play again Marquee Moon songs. You can like or not TELEVISION sound with guitar goimg up and down and Tom shouting voice but anyway it was something original and different in the music scene of that period. I consider Tom Verlaine a musician out of any scheme.
Marquee Moon is considered a piece of music history (both the song and the LP) and I hope to listen and see something worthy of fame that this work has.

EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL - Eden
It' s raining since 2 days. It is the Xmass storm, they say. So I' m spending quiet hours at home reading a book, playing with my daughter and ...of course listening to good music.
Everything but the girl and Tracey Thorn voice can add a bit of heat to a wet and rainy day.
I hadn't listened to this for years and now I am positively impressed rediscovering it. Another gift from Tracey wonderful voice.
This is probably the last post in 2013 so Happy new Years to all of you.

PFM - Storia di un minuto
Premiata Forneria Marconi (PFM) is probably the most famous Italian band of progressive rock. Franz Di Cioccio, Franco Mussida are well known names in the italian music world and still on the scenes.
This LP was a milestone of '70 and it is impossible not to remenber a piece like "impressioni di Settembre" ....wonderful. As final consideration I want to underline, with a bit of nostalgia, that the cover of vinyl LPs, and in special way in the '70 and beginning of '80 ones, had a great importance; really art works and progressive rock covers were at the top !! We lost for the moment (never say never) this part of the game.

MALIKA AYANE - 9/12/13 Auditorium di Milano
I was invited to a charity show with a concert of Malika Ayane, I know Malika and her voice so I corfirmed my presence. It was a nice evening; nothing exceptional, short (one hour of music) but at the end a good show. The kind of music is "easy listening ". It is OK for a relax evening. For who doesn' t know Malika (she is italian with maroccan parents) I post the link with her first CD "Feeling Better"( 2009). It had good success with some hits on TV advertising spots.

KID CREOLE & THE COCONUTS - Doppelganger
Just for fun... It could be a definition of Kid Creole "performance" (we cannot speak only of music here). I add the opportunity to see a live stage of Kid (and probably most famous Coconuts) and what I remember is the impressive stage, the great professionalism of the performance, the incredible numbers of scene changes during the show. For the period (it was in the '83) a completely out of the schemes "concert". Why I' m speaking now about Kid & the Coconut? Oh Yeah..... I just listened to the radio an old song of the band "London Beat" and that band was the supporter group to the Kid Creole "performance"!!!

PREFAB SPROUT - Steve McQueen (acoustic) 2007
It was 1982 when The Prefab Sprout first LP was issued. At that time I played that vinyls so many times..... I liked it. What is in this post is part of a reissue of the original LP dated 2007 but with that reissue a second CD was included with 8 acoustic traces.
It was really a good surprise for me listening to this. Like the original LP I am listening to these acoustic versions many many time and .....really I like it.

KRISMA - Chinese Restaurant (1978)
CHRISMA (Cristina and Maurizio) first and KRISMA later, these are the names used by this italian duo. In the '80 well known not only in Italy but also in other nations (it seems they have a lot of fans in Japan too). Since a lot of year I hear nothing about them but recently I receive a recent photo of a friend together with Krisma and as a background a "Chinese Restaurant". So the connection is quite easy to do !!!
